on-Go Set a Watchman

Who is the Watchman?

Harper Lee Published ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’, then 50 years later, she published ‘Go Set a Watchman’.

I revisited To Kill a Mockingbird on it’s 50th anniversary, then Go Set a Watchman came out and I gobbled that up as well…so, who is the watchman?

These in Isaiah, are prophetic verses.

Isaiah 21:4= My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

21:5= Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the sheild. 21:6= For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

(So that sets the scene and tone, giving us a little context)

21:7= And he saw a chariot with a couple of horseman, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

21:11=… ,Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

(But who is the watchman?)

Malachi 4:2=But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; …

2 Kings 9:19= Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.

9:20= And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and cometh not again: …

Ezekiel 3:17= Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at thy mouth, and give, and the people be not warned; them warning from me.

33:6= But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet and the people be not warned; if the sword come come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

33:7= So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

Good Friday…

Why Good Friday?

I always thought of Good Friday as being the most emotionally exhausting of the services.

In scripture it takes you there, we must never profess what it was that Jesus went through, only to be aware and know why he did it.

Because He won’t be doing it again!

Matthew 28:5-6

:5 And the angel answered and said unto the woman, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come see the place where the Lord lay.

(That must have been quite the event to try and process!)

1 John 3:16= Hereby perceive the word of God, because he laid down his life for us:

Romans 5:8= But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

John 3:36= He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that beleiveth not on the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Hebrews 10:11-12, 18-19= And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

:12= But ‘this man’, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God;

:18= Now where ‘remission of these is, there is no more’ offering for sin.

:19= Having therefore, bretheren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

Revelation 21:6= And he said unto me, It is done.

AMEN.

Every blessing,

Xx Val

The Second Coming-Burning Battle

This week, in our Bible study group, we discussed the events in the book of Joel 2:1-12. Armageddon around Israel, where Christ blazes through into a place called the Hebrew tongue. (ref: Rev.16:16)

=Joel 2:1-BLOW ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

=Joel 2:2-A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be anymore after it, even to the years of many generations.

Amos 5:18-Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of he LORD is darkness, and not light.

Zephaniah 2:15-That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

=Joel 2:3-A fire devoureth before them;and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them , and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

=Joel 2:4- The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horseman, so they shall run.

=Joel 2:5- Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.

=Joel 2:6-Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

=Joel 2:7 They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:

=Joel 2:8- Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

=Joel 2:9- They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.

=Joel 2:10-The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:

Psalm 18:7- Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

Isaiah 13:10- For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

=Joel 2:11- And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

=Joel 2:12- Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me  with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning.

Hosea 12:6- Therefore turn to thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgement, and wait on thy God continually.

1 Thessalonians 4:16- For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the arch angel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

1 Thessalonians 5:23- And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved and blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I recall a Disney animated piece of classical music in Fantasia 2000, called Fire bird Suit. It showed a little character spreading her arms wide and flying to and fro over the earth laying behind her bucolic countryside in the sweeping tones of the music. Then the terrible Fire bird belches forth out of a volcano and lays waste to all her efforts.

But when Christ comes back with fire in his eyes, lay waste he will. But this is necessary to enter the New Jerusalem.

Fearing and Loathing. Psalm 139:19-24.

David seems so consumed with his passion for God, when he remembers those that perhaps don’t share his affection, this is his reaction…

=Psalm 139:19-Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

Isaiah 11:4-But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

=Psalm 139:20- For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

1 Samuel 2:3- Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

=Psalm 139:21- Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

-:22- I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

-:23- Search me, O GOD, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

-:24-And see if there be any wicked way in me in the way everlasting.

(It seems to me, David has a fearing and loathing. He fears the LORD as we all must and he loaths the people that do not fear. He pulls himself up to ask the Lord to substantiate their relationship and to affirm his loyalty.)

Just one final thing, a dear friend of mine, Piera Galvin, has brought out her debut food and nutrition book. ‘God’s Food Heals’.

You can find this paper back book on Amazon for £9.51 or the Kindle edition for£3.99

Backed up with scripture from the King James Bible and find out how she went from scripture to a new release on life. I watched her go from one Dr. to another dietition, without resolve she was after. It was frightening, frustrating and in the meantime continued to get worse.

She reminded me, Proverbs 30:5-Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Hide and Seek, Psalm 139:8-17

A continuation of last post. I feel David is overwhelmed with so much in this Psalm. It is the joy that he describes in acknowledging that what ever he does, wherever he goes, he is-because of God.

=Psalm 139:8-If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Hebrews 4:13-Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Psalm 51:1-3 – Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

:2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me of my sin.

:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

=Psalm 139:9-If  I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

:10-Even there shall my hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Psalm 23:2- He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Revelation 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

=Psalm 139:11- If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

:12- Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

:13- For thou has possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

:14- I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

:15-My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Deuteronomy 29:29-The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

=Psalm 139:16-Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

:17-How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them.

-What ever we do in our day and our night, I pray we remember David’s humble excitement. Not for precious jewels, but for our precious Lord our God.

Every Blessing for 2017!

The Eyes & Ears of God:Psalm 139.

photo-28-07-2015-14-17-19

I apologise for any technical viewing you may experience

We, at our Church are not the first or the last to be moved in the (brief) study of Psalm 139. The Eyes and Ears of God in this chapter is described by King David.

God’s omission is through our own past present and future ‘us’. It certainly wouldn’t take any time at all for God to search through us, as he has always known us.

(I find that comforting, in that it only takes my effort to remember my sins of the past, to read scripture, can remind me of my short comings. He knows all my ways and quirks, but that is not to say I in turn understand God and his plans. He points things out to me through his word and inspires  conclusions to a problem.)

Isaiah 55:8 & 9.                                                                                                                                           (Paraphrasing) God’s thoughts and ways are not our own, as his heavens are higher than our earth, his ways are higher than our thoughts and ways. Far and away from our own comprehension.

Psalm 147:5                                                                                                                                                    Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Psalm 139:4                                                                                                                                                    For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it all together.      (God knows his children, much better than we know ourselves. It is not enough to remember he knows our hearts, He knows the good and bad of our intentions.)

Hebrews 6:13                                                                                                                                               Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Psalm 139:5                                                                                                                                                 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

Job 9:33                                                                                                                                                           Neither is there any daysman betwixed us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

Isaiah 1:18                                                                                                                                                                Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.   (I love how God can appeal to us in a personal way)

Psalm 139:6                                                                                                                                              Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Job 21:22                                                                                                                                                    Shall any teach God Knowledge?  seeing he judgeth those that are high.

(Very humbling to know our limitations with God. It is not what we are used to in the world. We are exposed to so many things, attracted to about half of that and have an opinion on the other half.                                                                                                                       I find putting things over to God, while having absolute trust in him, is liberating, because he hasn’t an agenda that benefits him at our cost.)

Psalm 139:7                                                                                                                                                   Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or wither shall I flee from thy presence?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 (Even if we wanted to, we cannot escape God.  We can become overwhelmed with our actions that can build up and left unattended, can become a bit of a monster. Wanting to shut the door on them and walk away is a natural temptation, but when it becomes difficult shoving that metaphorical, un-dealt with sin behind the door…without others spilling out, you get the picture.  You’ll need to step up and have a clear out. It can be daunting, but as scripture shows before, God has offered you personal support with all the lifting and sorting. Trust Him. Let him help, never be so proud to think you can do this on your own. Best part is, your relationship will be so much richer and you wont owe him anything!)

Psalm 90:8                                                                                                                                                 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, all our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

My thanks to Barry for the directions, to Niamh and Caitlin as tech support and to God for his word, his eyes and ears.

Every blessing,                                                                                                                                                         XxVal

A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Hi again,

When I was growing up in Canada in the ’60s, my folks had the ‘Peanuts’ comic strips from the news paper pinned on the cork board in the kitchen. We watched the seasonal specials as well as the other animated stories that came out.

It wasn’t until I became an adult, did I find out that Charles M. Schulz the creator of The Peanuts Gang, was a devout Christian.

Charles was raised in a Lutheran church, in the ’60s, he taught Sunday school in a Methodist church. On the Wikipedia site, his widow had said solid and honest things about her late husband, but this I feel could be said for everyone. He was humble and smart enough to admit it.

‘God was very important to him, but in a very deep way, in a very mysterious way.’

A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965 finds the gang in the Nativity Play. Young Linus stands as a solitary figure in the spot light and quotes Luke 2:8-14 from the King James Bible. If that was cut out and it nearly was, then the special was not going to happen. He had full control over the content. Praise the Lord.

Luke 2:8-14

:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shon round about them: and they were sore afraid.

:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.

:13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

:14 Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men.

This is where then the scene fades to continue with the rest of their little story. But it remains in scripture not for the purpose of the few, but for all that call on the LORD.

Colossians 1:19-20

:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;

:20 And having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

John 3:16-17

:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

We will be caught up in the world, swept away at times with the overwhelming demands of social convention of the season. Tick lists to tick off the tick lists! And the family member that announce 20 minutes before the turkey is dragged out of the oven and the yorkshire pudding batter is dolloped in pork fat, that they have in fact turned vegetarian…(sorry Mum).   I pray that at some point you can share or have quiet time for the family member that won’t be bothered what the food or the gifts are like. Just what sort of time you have getting the valuable visit in with Our Father.
